FC Utrecht is founded on July 1, 1970. It was a merger of three clubs from the city of Utrecht: DOS, Elinkwijk and Velox. It featured in the European Cup in the 1980s several times but suffered a downturn in fortunes after 1991 and had to wait for a further ten years to play European football again.
DOS won the national championship in 1958. FC Utrecht has won the KNVB Cup three times: in 1985, 2003 and 2004.

Scotland World Cup 1982

After failing to qualify for the 1980 European Championship, Stein aimed to take Scotland to their third successive World Cup finals. Scotland qualified from a tough group including Sweden, Portugal, Israel and Northern Ireland, losing just one match in the process. At the finals in Spain, Scotland, for the third successive World Cup, went out on goal difference.

Scotland World Cup 1978

Scotland appointed Ally MacLeod as manager in 1977 with qualification for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina far from assured. MacLeod made a strong start and won the 1977 British Home Championship, beating England at Wembley Stadium. after the match Scotland fans infamously invaded the pitch, ripping up the turf and breaking a crossbar. Scotland continued to play impressively under MacLeod and the team secured qualification for the World Cup with victories over Czechoslovakia and Wales.
During the build-up to the World Cup, MacLeod fuelled the hopes of the nation by stating that Scotland would come home with a medal. As the squad left for the finals in Argentina, they were given an enthusiastic send off as they were paraded around a packed Hampden Park. Thousands more fans lined the route to Prestwick Airport as the team set off for South America. Scotland started their World Cup campaign against Peru and Iran. Despite taking the lead in both games, Scotland won neither; the group stage encounters ended in defeat against Peru and in a draw against Iran. The disconsolate mood of the nation was reflected by footage of Ally MacLeod in the dugout with his head in his hands. After taking a single point from their opening two games, Scotland had to defeat one of the tournament favourites, the Netherlands, by three clear goals to progress. Despite the Dutch taking the lead, Scotland fought back to win 3–2 with goals from Kenny Dalglish and a double from Archie Gemmill, the second of which is one of the most celebrated goals in Scotland's history; Gemmill beat three Dutch defenders before lifting the ball over goalkeeper Jan Jongbloed. The victory was not sufficient to secure a place in the second round, and Scotland were eliminated on goal difference for the second successive World Cup. MacLeod resigned as manager shorty after the tournament. Jock Stein was appointed as his replacement.

England World Cup 1986

England national team, still with the UMBRO kits during the World Cup 1986 tournaments at Mexico. The England home kits with the typical white, away in red and third in pale blue. England shirts with the same design however the red and pale blue kits, made no appearance at the tournament. England wore the white shirts in the first four matches. Then came the quaterfinal against Argentina, against whom England usually wore red in contrast to Argentina's pale blue and white striped shirts. But this time Argentina wore their alternate solid blue shirts.
The team under Bobby Robson fared better as England reached the quarter finals of the 1986 World Cup and finished fourth in the tournament four years later, which was the best performance in the World Cup since 1966.

England World Cup 1982

June 29th, 1982 against West Germany in Madrid. England wore a variation of this design. The Blue line across the chest was in the middle of the white band, instead of underneath it and they wore black outline squad numbers on the right thigh. At the half-time however Paul Mariner and Phil Thompson changed into the shirts worn against France.

June 16th, 1982 against France. This was the first uniform in which England wore numbered short. The number were red and appeared on the right thigh of the white shorts. Later they wore Black outline short, this may have been because the red numbers were not secure enough to last a whole game. Paul Mariner's number 11 had fallen of his shorts before the end of the match againts France. Admiral logo not appeared on shirt & short.

Home kit. Admiral logos were worn at the base of the numbers on the back shirt for the first time against Kuwait in June 25th, 1982.
